About Hillsborough
Hillsborough is one of North Carolina's oldest towns, founded in 1754, with a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Colonial-era architecture lines the streets near Churton Street, the Eno River winds through town, and the Historic District remains the residential and civic center.
The residential market runs from restored historic homes near downtown to newer construction in Beckett's Ridge, Waterstone, Gold Park, and Collins Ridge. Hillsborough sits about 15 minutes from both Chapel Hill and Durham, which puts the Triangle's universities, hospitals, and major employers inside an easy commute. The Last Fridays art walk, the independent shops along Churton Street, and the working arts scene downtown are part of why buyers from inside and outside the Triangle keep landing here.
Hillsborough's most visible commercial activity is the independent retail along Churton Street, which doubles as the town's residential spine and is walkable from the Historic District. Collins Ridge includes a small mixed-use village center alongside its residential build-out, which adds some local commercial activity but is not a sourced office market. TRES has worked the Triangle since 2005 and has been independent since 2017, and we cover Hillsborough the same way we cover Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Pittsboro. Broader Hillsborough market detail, including named anchor employers and a sourced office or industrial inventory, is part of an open follow-up with Mike rather than something we will guess at here.

Living in Hillsborough
Hillsborough's daily life runs along the Eno. Eno River State Park has miles of hiking trails along the river, and the Riverwalk greenway connects neighborhoods to downtown. River Park hosts concerts and community gatherings through the warmer months.
Churton Street is the town's main corridor, with independent bookshops, galleries, restaurants, and cafes. The monthly Last Fridays art walk draws visitors from across the Triangle to studios, live music, and the town's working artists.
If you want a slower pace without giving up Triangle access, Hillsborough fits. The Historic District, the river, and the town's community calendar are the day-to-day. Chapel Hill and Durham are about 15 minutes away.
