Relocating to the Triangle?
Around 10 to 15% of TRES clients are relocating into the Triangle, often from California, Colorado, Florida, or the Northeast corridor. You work with Mike directly. TRES does not partner with corporate relocation companies, so the consultation, neighborhood tours, and home search are not routed through a third party.

Why the Triangle
UNC in Chapel Hill, Duke in Durham, and NC State in Raleigh anchor the region, alongside a tech corridor centered on Research Triangle Park. That combination drives most of what makes the Triangle a magnet for people moving in from out of state. The economy is diversified, the talent pool is deep, and the metro keeps growing without losing the small-town feel in the towns we work in.
The places earn it. You can walk down Franklin Street on a fall Saturday, grab coffee at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, catch a show at DPAC in Durham, or hike along the Eno River in Hillsborough. The area is built around farmers markets, locally owned restaurants, Jordan Lake sunsets, and neighbors who actually know your name.
Cost of living runs well below Austin, Denver, and the Bay Area. According to Wikipedia, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is the top-performing school district in the southeastern United States. The weather gives you four genuine seasons. You can choose walkable downtown living, quiet countryside, or something in between, and pick the trade-off that fits. Most of the time the budget stretches further here than where you are coming from.

Chapel Hill
TRES's home market. UNC and UNC Health drive demand for Franklin Street retail and medical office, while residential ranges from condos near campus to estate homes in Governor's Club. Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools rank among the top three districts in North Carolina.
Explore
Carrboro
Carrboro is a walkable, bike-friendly town on the bus line, anchored by Weaver Street Market, a long-standing food co-op. Families enjoy main-street charm alongside restaurants and eateries that draw neighbors out nightly.
Explore
Durham
Anchored by Research Triangle Park, Durham is a blossoming city with high-end dining, DPAC, and the Durham Bulls. Mixed-use growth continues across office, tech, medical, and new residential communities.
Explore
Hillsborough
Hillsborough is the Orange County seat with a historic downtown worth lingering in. It feels like a retreat outside the major hubs while staying close enough to commute into Chapel Hill or Durham. Residential parcels tend to be larger than closer-in Triangle pockets.
Explore
Pittsboro
Pittsboro has grown from a small town into a larger community with new housing developments, fine homes, and emerging mixed-use and retail. It works well as a bedroom community for Raleigh, Cary, and Apex while keeping Chapel Hill and Jordan Lake within easy reach.
ExploreHow we help you relocate.
The work starts with a consultation. We learn your goals, timeline, who is moving with you, and what would make this the right move, then build the search around the answer. From there it becomes an office orientation with maps pulled up, tour days, school comparisons, neighborhood trade-offs, and introductions to the lenders, inspectors, and movers you will need on landing. Most of our relocation clients are seeing the Triangle for the first time, often from California, Colorado, Florida, or the Northeast. The point of the process is to get you from never having been here to knowing where you would live, as quickly as possible.
Relocation consultation
We start with a call or video meeting to learn your goals, timeline, budget, and what is driving the move, whether that is job, family, schools, lifestyle, weather, or some combination of all five. By the end of the conversation we have enough to build a search around your priorities rather than around whatever happens to be on the market that week.
Area orientation in our office
If you have never been here, the next step is a session in our office with maps pulled up. We walk you through the Triangle neighborhood by neighborhood. The session typically runs an hour or two and answers most of the geography questions before you book another trip. If you are relocating a business at the same time, we usually look at home options and business space on the same trip.
Area tours
On the tour day we drive the neighborhoods you flagged in the office session. Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, and Chatham County all sit within reasonable driving distance, and the day usually mixes street drives, downtown stops, and a few neighborhood walk-throughs so you see the streets, not just the listings. We also layer in commute checks at the times of day you would actually drive. Most clients narrow to two or three target neighborhoods after one full day on the ground.
Schools and neighborhood matching
Schools cover public, charter, magnet, and private. We pull current ratings, attendance boundaries, and lottery or enrollment details for the areas you are considering, and we flag the assignment quirks specific to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Durham Public Schools, and Chatham County Schools. From there we match the neighborhoods to your priorities, including commute, walkability, lot size, HOA structure, sidewalks, and new construction versus established. A master-planned community with trails and pools is very different from a gated golf community, and a walkable village near campus is very different from a downtown loft neighborhood, so we name the trade-offs before you tour rather than after.
Remote buying support
If you cannot get on a plane before you need to commit, we run live video tours from inside the property, walk you through inspection reports as they come in, and send back honest reads on condition, layout flow, and resale considerations. Most of our out-of-state clients write at least one offer remotely, and the workflow is built to let you do that without flying blind.
Local connections
We connect you with the lenders, inspectors, real-estate attorneys, movers, contractors, and insurance agents we actually use on our own deals, not a generic referral list. Once you land, we will also point you to the pediatricians, vets, gyms, and trainers our clients keep going back to.
